The tubes on the four-way filament holder of the Anycubic Kobra X are too slim for a lot of common spools. The spool doesn't run true, it wobbles.
The sleeve widens the seat to 42 mm. The original tube stays where it is — the sleeve press-fits over it, and the bayonet lock keeps working as before: put it on, twist, click. The 50 mm outer lip at the front stops the spool from wandering outwards.
Tested with spools from Anycubic, Bambu Lab and Sunlu.
How it came about
During the Kobra X contest on Makeronline — which had been running a while by the time the printer arrived here. Two things annoyed me from day one, and one of them was the spool seat. It ended in an Excellent Participation Award, shared with nine others. 😬
V1, then V2
The first version worked, but the feedback turned up a case I never had myself: cardboard spools.
Those don't run on one continuous surface inside — they run on two side rings, with the core sitting deeper. That lets the spool jam in the gap between tube and support arm. I never noticed, because I don't use cardboard spools. You design for your own shelf.
So V2 has:
- a taller rear disc that stops exactly that jamming
- proper radii instead of hard transitions
- a thinner front face, no chamfer
- 24.15 mm inner diameter for the original tube
Both versions are still up there, each with its own print profile. If you've printed V1 and don't use cardboard spools, there's no need to reprint.
