CheeTag
A tool that cleans up a grown music collection — sort, tag, verify. It is being built right now.
Coming soon. CheeTag is being built. These pages describe what it is meant to do, how it works and how far along it is.
A music collection grows over the years — ripped with whatever was at hand, named to the taste of whichever program did it, tagged somehow. What is left is a folder in which the same band is spelled four different ways and compilations pose as artists.
CheeTag cleans that up — step by step, traceably, and without the original taking any damage.

The three words in the name
- SORT — files are captured, duplicates found, albums grouped.
- TAG — title, artist, album, year and cover come from MusicBrainz, found through an acoustic fingerprint.
- VERIFY — a track is only done once the new file has been read back and the music is bit-for-bit the same.
What it costs
Nothing. CheeTag will be free of charge.
What it is not
No streaming service, no account, no cloud. CheeTag runs on your own machine, the data stays there, and the keys for the music services live in the operating system's vault.
